Kamal Kaur, a fellow nurse, reached out to us about her amazing boyfriend, Nurse Alvin Varkey. Nurse Varkey works in the Emergency Room at Bellevue Hospital in NYC. Kaur wanted to surprise him with Sweet Vegan Chocolates and we were touched by her story of his dedication and his courage.
What makes a Sweet Vegan Unsung Hero?
Nurse Varkey is determined and open to learning new ideas, and seeks opportunites to help others. It is his ability with less than a year on the job to take on the intense and frequently overwhelming ICU responsibilities with maturity and compassion. He never looses his sense of humor, considering the extreme work hours and demands. It’s all of these things together that makes Nurse Varkey our first Sweet Vegan"Nurse" Unsung Hero.

Nurse Varkey is not only a great asset to the NYC healthcare system but also to everyone’s life that he touches.
His compassion towards his patients and their family members is unconditional. He supports his colleagues through the rough times as well, even if it means longer hours & he doesn’t get a break.
he puts himself on the frontline for his patients and still, He doesn’t miss a chance to put a smile on someone’s face and share a laugh with those around him. “Nurse Varkey is comic relief by being his goofy-self”, shares Kamal Kaur.
