Meet Nurse Camacho
Favorite quote for inspiration
“As a nurse, we have the opportunity to heal the mind, soul, heart, and body of our patients, their families, and ourselves. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” - Maya Angelou
Our 2nd nominee for nurse appreciation week
Nurse Camacho was nominated by her daughter, Gisselle Marie. Thank you! Nurse Camacho is an RN, who works at North Central Hospital, Bronx, NY.
She is our next hero for her resilience, COURAGE and loving care. we were so touched by her story and The commitment, love, and hope that she gives her patients everyday. she has been working tirelessly way before this pandemic started for years always helping everyone she encounters.
As a RN in GYN/Prenatal Unit, she has seen many changes in her unit with COVID-19. Screening, masks, and PPE before entering are now part of the prerequisite. Tele-visits, an in-home procedure, have also been implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Due to these precautions, there are less patients in Clinic, which average between 15-20 patients per day, a big improvement over the 30+ patients previously.
Unfortunately, Wanda did contract COVID-19 with life threatening consequences. She was on medical leave for over 3 weeks and recovered with the care and assistance of her loving family. While in recovery, Nurse Camacho was not on any prescription medications. Instead, she turned to vitamins and OTC remedies. Her daughter, Gisselle Marie, who works with animals at a Veterinary Hospital oversaw her daily care with constant encouragement and love. After recovering from this deadly virus herself, Nurse Camacho has an improved understanding of her patients’ pain and suffering. With this new insight, she is able to provide her patients with better physical and emotional care.

Gisselle and Wanda Camacho
Nurse Camacho has returned back to work and has reflected about the important things in her life: family and making time for the things she enjoys, such as going to the beach and hiking with her daughter. She loves her four children: Javy (30), Michael (28), Joseph (27), and Gisselle Marie (32). They all live together and this is her constant joy in addition to sharing her children’s lives and successes.
As a survivor of this pandemic and being on the front line, Nurse Camacho shares that her new renewed philosophy is to not take her family for granted. You know what they say, “It’s the little things that matter”.
Thank you Nurse Camacho for all the amazing things you do at North Central Hospital. You’re Sweet Vegan’s special honoree of chocolate.
